Applique Workshop

Spent the day at The Crazy 9 Patch working on prepping blocks to hand out at Back Country Quilters for the 2014 Opportunity quilt.  Only had 2 ladies show up but all the others are working on blocks at home. I got one prepped and glued down-just needs sewing.  Carolyn is finishing hers at home and she got 18 maple leaves handed out and gathered back finished-way to go!  Emily finished a block as well so all in all a very productive day.

June Happenings

The June meeting will be at our regular time. 6:30pm but it WILL NOT be at The Crazy 9 Patch.  It will be at Oak Tree Ranch on Wednesday June 19th.  PLEASE WATCH YOUR SPEED when entering the park...it's 15 mph while in the park. The park is located about a mile after you turn left on Magnolia from 78 toward Julian.  It is on the right and is clearly marked.  Drive in and park where the large white house is-there is parking around to the right. Don't forget to go to The Crazy 9 Patch for the Shop Hop,  BCQ's get 20% off 1 item.  Thank-you Martha!

Brenda Caster will be doing the demo - a pie taker - she will provide everyone with a pattern.
Bring anything you no longer want from your studios for door prizes-BCQ's are green:)

June is a deadline for the UFO list-I got mine done and I hope you did too.  That list is really helping me to keep on track-thank-you Debbie for initiating it. bring your UFO to the meeting to share and get your name checked on Debbie's list.
On JUNE 12 we will have a second applique workshop.  The one in May went very well.  Thank-you to those who came out-we had a good turnout.  If you would like to help please bring a salad ingredient and what you would like to drink; small iron and pad, starch in a small container, stiletto, small brush, paper scissors and regular scissors.  I will provide lettuce, dressing and plates.

We will have kits to give out at the June meeting and all you have to do is sew on the applique to the backing.  Several people have already taken home kits who were in the Crazy 9 that day-THANK YOU! the deadline is August meeting to have everything back to me so I can assemble the top and get it to Susie by Sept. 1 for quilting.

June 14th is Martha's Scrappy Hour at the Crazy 9 Patch and that is too fun!  6-7pm. Also the quilt run is this month.  Check out Martha's website http://www.crazy9patch.com

JULY 1 is the deadline for submitting quilts to the San Diego Quilt Show. Check out their website.

Hope to see you at the meeting-If you never plan to come to the meetings again and you are getting the e-mails please let us know so we can put you on the inactive list and won't put you in the directory-otherwise, come on out on Wednesday night-we have a good time and you all know Brenda-her demo will be entertaining:) You won't be bored.

May 2013 Meeting

The may meeting was my first time playing Quilto.  What fun.  Close to 20 ladies and one young gentleman played and won fat quarters.  Many members brought door prizes and Debbie made lemon bars.

A couple of members are needed to sell tickets at the ribfest for the opportunity quilt.  There will be a handful of opportunities to sit with the quilt before the Quilt Show in October.  If you could just plan to do one shift, it would alleviate the burden for the few that seem to do it all the time.  Contact Janet Haas as soon as possible as the rib Fest is next weekend.

May 28th from 10-3 at the Crazy 9 Patch is a work party for putting together the quilt block kits for the 2014 opportunity quilt.  If you know how to do the freezer paper method of applique (or would like to learn) please join us.  You need to bring the following:

A salad ingredient or 2 ( I will provide the lettuce and dressing and croutons)
ironing pad and small iron
spray starch in container
small stencil brush
stylus
paper scissors
a smile

If we can get 6 or 7 volunteers, I think we can get most of it done that day-ready to hand out at the June meeting.  Please call me (760-789-2083) or email (eswatniki@sbcglobal.net) if you can join us.

Embroidery Class

Cecelia hart is leading a wonderful class on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays 9am-11 am at The Senior Center in Ramona (off 5th St.).  Last week I was too busy to stay the whole time so I took my camera and notepad and learned quite a few new things even without my machine.  The class is almost full so call Cecelia if you want to join it-you won't be disappointed-I have learned a ton!

Janet Haas stabilizing her stabilizer with Cecelia's direction

How to make your strawberry multiply and then behave with our teacher, Cecelia Hart

Classroom at the senior center

Besides arraying our strawberries-we also learned how to make a quilt label-I have some practice to do:)

Cecelia demonstrating on her computer (she is a real geek:))

Our teacher's sample of this last week's project:an embroidery tool bag

Judy's bag-my favorite color!

Candy and Marie (Candy is Cecelia's right hand woman)
I learned: That if I put Filmoplast over my thread-it won't break, Shoppersrule.com is a good website for sewing stuff, Easy stitch is a good tearaway stabilizer at JoAnn's,and a website for embroidery freebies is www.embroideryonline.com.  I also met 2 new ladies, Marie and Connie.  A good morning spent.  Cecelia is very organized and has put a lot of time into this class and it shows-THank-you, Cecelia!

April 17th Meeting

It was nice to see a few BCQ's that we haven't seen in awhile and always nice to see the regular attenders.  We filled the C9P from 6:30-7:45.   Jan Moore won the bucket of fat quarters, Martha did a great fat quarter pattern demo that makes into 2 sizes of a really nice quilt and gave all 25 attenders a free pattern, quite a few members signed up for the UFO Challenge (I sent the form out to all members so you can turn in next month), and sharing closed the meeting.

Next month we won't have a demo-we will be playing Quilt-O instead so bring a fat quarter for every card you want and markers (m and m's, buttons or?) for the cards.  I have wanted to play for a couple of years and this will be my first opportunity.  Bring something from your studio or stash that you don't want anymore and we will call it a door prize.

Debbie Branch and her mom, Martha Henry made Rosettes for the UFO Challenge-we get a button for every project we finish in the year-I am going for all five so I have a chance to win a nice prize at the end in addition to getting 5 projects done-nice, Debbie!

Homemade CC cookies and Strawberry trifle for dessert

Candy shared about the Museum Show (she also took the UFO challenge)

Martha told us about the classes coming to the 9 Patch

Martha's Demo and quilt example

Same quilt in another color way

Debbie Heaton's turquoise and red

Susan Porter's Bakelite button bracelet

Carolyn's embroidered piece (it matches the background and her blouse)

Candy made a miniature of the hundreds of Sun Bonnet Sue's she made and donated (don't talk to her about SBS's)

Sorry Candy-this was a beautiful piece of her embroidery-lousy photographer

Brenda made a lovely panel quilt-she is well on the road to recovery

Eanne made several items from material donated to the senior center-they will be donated to charity

Janet Haas makes a quilt for the Symphony every year, buys tickets for it and put her quilter friends names on the tickets-Eanne won-isn't it beautiful

Janet also finished some placemats on her last trip to AZ

A very pretty quilt, Carrie-a terrible photographer

Judy B. and Prayers & Squares from IHM made this for Tea With Thee that supports the pregnancy center.  It will be raffled off at the tea on May 4th

Debbie Branch having too much fun ready to draw the winning ticket for the fat quarters.

A lot of fun stuffed into an hour and 45 minutes-come join us next month!

Next Month's meeting is Wednesday, May 15

Bring:
Nametag
UFO sheet if you haven't already done so (+10.00)
something from your studio for a door prize (optional of course)
Sharing if you have it
Your UFO Badge
